FAQ
What is Impact Experience Design (IXD)?
IXD – Impact Experience Design – is a sub-category of Experience Design in which the skill sets of experience design get applied to pressing societal and planetary issues. The intention behind impact experience design goes beyond entertainment and commercial priorities and rather centers around initiating these positive shifts within our global value system.
Impact Experience Design can take various shapes and forms for us:
- Diverse approaches: installations, music, nature guiding, retreats, workshops, time travel
- Possible audiences: youth, organisation staff, participants of events, visitors of exhibitions, etc
- Globally applied: applied already across the globe and for centuries
It is all about the experience of the user or audience and the intention to create positive change. IXD can offer innovative solutions to “bend the curves” of challenges that the world is facing today by leveraging holistic, immersive approaches to foster connection, spark inspiration, and catalyze action.
Which one is right for me? Self-Paced or Cohort Experience?
Go Self-Paced if…
You have a fluctuating schedule, prefer deep-diving into content solo, or want to use the IXD toolkit as a reference library for an existing project at your own speed.
Join the Cohort if…
You want to build a global network of impact designers, crave real-time discussion on complex topics, and thrive under the “healthy pressure” of a weekly schedule.
What topics can experience design get applied to?
Our focus with this course which you will see through the real-world cases is primarily on experience design applied to nature connection. Thus, tackling problems in the climate and biodiversity space. Nevertheless, all our current challenges in this time of polycrisis are interconnected. If your background is in social change, we still believe you can gain a lot of value from tacking this course.
What happens if I miss a live session with the Cohort?
All sessions are recorded and uploaded to the portal within 24-36 hours.
Is previous experience needed?
No prior experience is required. We died our best to make it relevant for the whole spectrum of learners: from I am all new to this field to I am running nature experiences.
The course welcomes anyone eager to explore experience design for positive impact.
Does it have a certification?
Yes, you will automatically receive a certification upon completing the course.
How much does it cost?
We offer three tiers with the intention to make it accessible to all. The cohort module has a separate cost with a form to apply to a scholarship. You will find more information on the sign-up page.
The course fee is a donation to WeWilder. One of the impact experiences that has contributed to this course, was an important stepping stone for some of the contributors and is struggling financially this year. They combine nature experiences with community development alongside bison rewilding in rural Romania.
How long will I have access to the course?
Once you enroll, you’ll have lifetime access to the course through Teachable. You can revisit the content anytime at your own pace.
Can my organization or NGO sponsor my enrollment?
Absolutely. Many of our participants are supported by their organizations through professional development or capacity-building budgets.
Since Impact Experience Design (IXD) directly enhances how teams engage stakeholders, design for behavior change, and communicate complex environmental issues (or social issues), it is a highly eligible expense for mission-driven teams.
How to frame the request to your Lead or Board:
-
From “Output” to “Outcome”: Highlight how IXD provides a specialized toolkit & methods to move beyond just performing activities to creating measurable, lasting impact. I.e. Positive Psychology, Facilitation, Empathy, Storytelling etc.
-
Systems Thinking: Emphasize that the course trains you to navigate the interconnectedness of social and ecological challenges, helping your organization avoid siloed or short-term solutions.
-
Stakeholder Co-Design: Learn to move beyond “consulting” to truly co-designing with your beneficiaries. You will gain a framework to create high-impact touchpoints that ensure the IXD methodology is directly translated into measurable change within your organization’s active projects.
